One of the biggest problems that I've got with making terrain is making the underboard for the piece - I've got some hardboard that I cut out last year, and I can do that again, but a lot of the time I have to put projects on hold because I don't have a base of sufficient size.
However, it occurred to me recently that a record - the old kind, the black vinyl kind - would work beautifully as a base for larger terrain pieces. They're fairly large, fairly durable, and they give you a decent amount of space to work on.
I don't have any.
I know that the local thrift/goodwill stores _probably_ have some bouncing around, but I don't know which ones and I don't know if I want to be running around trying to get to them before they close.
So: Does anybody have any old records that really suck that they could part with? I'm not talking Rolling Stones or stuff that's still good, I'm talking, like, Don Ho Sings the Death Rattles of Burning Orphans, that kind of thing. Or do you know of a thrift store that for sure sells vinyl records cheap, for a quarter an album or so?
